The Bixby Rotary Club and Hillcrest Hospital South welcome the 19th annual Bixby BBQ and Blues festival, Friday and Saturday, May 1st and 2nd, to Washington Irving Park just north of the Arkansas River on south Memorial Drive in Bixby, Oklahoma.  This premiere competition has 75 teams from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas competing for the Grand Champion of BBQ and People’s Choice Awards.

New to the festival on Friday this year is a BBQ competition for kids ages 6-15 called Kid’s Q.  The contestants will be smelling up the park with their original BBQ creations for their chance to win prizes.

The blues part of the event features several local and nationally known artist performing live all day Friday and Saturday. The Rotary Club partners with the Tulsa Blues Society and Radio IDL to assure the best talent for our audiences.

Festival goers can participate in selecting the Best BBQ for the People’s Choice Award Saturday morning by purchasing a taster’s kit for $10 and sampling ribs, pork, brisket, and chicken… the best in Oklahoma, and in the Midwest, then placing their vote for the People’s Choice!

The Bixby BBQ and Blues festival is a 2-day family friendly event.  Over 50 retail vendors will be displaying and selling their goods and services.  A kids zone will feature pony rides, slides and inflatables.  In addition to the BBQ, there will be a food court with vendors selling BBQ, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, beer, soft drinks and so much more.

In addition to the Bixby BBQ and Blues, The Rotary Club of Bixby is a non-profit organization designed to help residents in need of Bixby through projects such as distribution of over 900 dictionaries to 3rd graders in Bixby and surrounding area schools, Shoes for Local Souls, Shop with a Cop, high school scholarships, and more.  The Rotarians also have international projects providing educational support to a Girls School, medical supplies to developing countries, and providing eyewear to people in remote locations of developing countries.   For more information on the Rotary Club of Bixby, check them out at bixbyrotary.com
